Joris van Son became a master of the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke as early as 1643/44. He painted floral garlands under the influence of Daniel Seghers, as well as still lifes of fruit and flowers that are equal in quality to those by Jan Davidsz. de Heem. Joris van Son’s painting oscillates between the Flemish and Dutch schools, although he affiliated himself more closely with the Dutch school during his later years. Occasionally, Joris van Son worked together with Erasmus Quellinus.
